‘Depraved’ female prison officer sentenced for having sex with inmates

A ‘fallen’ former corrections officer in California will serve 210 days in jail, followed by two years of probation, after 11 others openly had sex with an inmate.

Tina Gonzalez of the Fresno County Jail was sentenced Thursday for the act and for supplying inmates with drugs and cellphones after an investigation into her conduct began in December 2019.

The 26-year-old also allegedly provided inmates with razor blades and critical prison intelligence.

“sometimes, [she] Sensitive information was communicated to the prisoner about the individuals who entered the prisoner’s pod and the time the pod was searched,” prosecutor Caitlin Drake said of Gonzalez’s actions.

Fresno County Assistant Sheriff Steve McComas accused her of putting her fellow corrections officers at risk, betraying her oath, and making some of the most Shameful way.

“Cut a hole in the pants to make it easier to have sex with one prisoner and have sex with 11 other prisoners in full view, something only a depraved mind can think of,” he said.

He revealed that Gonzalez’s behavior lasted more than a year before investigators caught him, and that phone calls after her December 2019 arrest showed it was continuing.

“She showed no remorse. She kept making phone calls, having explicit conversations with questionable prisoners and even bragging about the crimes she had committed. [It] It shows her inability to admit her mistakes and will no doubt continue in the future,” he said.

Gonzalez’s lawyer, Martin Taleisnik, told the court that “it was never her intention to bring any harm or danger to the prison employees or anyone in the prison”.

He added that his client was responsible for her actions, but she recently ended her marriage when it happened, leaving her vulnerable.

Judge Michael Idyat noted in sentencing that Gonzalez had no prior criminal record and admitted her guilt.

“I think what you did was terrible and stupid,” he said.

“You ruined your career. You endangered your colleagues. But I also believe people can redeem themselves. You have the rest of your life to prove it.”
