Brenda Blethyn talks about playing Vera on hit ITV show

Villa star Kenny Doughty has paid an emotional tribute to his late colleague Mark Allen.

Mark, who worked on the ITV series for eight years, suffered complications from coronavirus earlier this year and tragically passed away in April.

As the final episode of the latest series Vera wrapped up Sunday night, actor Kenny, who played the character Aiden Healey, paid his respects on social media.

Kenny tweeted “Peace Friend,” while the rest of the cast paid tribute to their former art department colleagues on social media.

“Thank you for the lovely message,” Kenny wrote. “Wonderful ep and great cast and direction @cebohon1.

“A lot of respect for our staff. Especially Mark Allen – who has unfortunately passed away.

“Will miss his laughter and his flash. Peaceful friends. Now a fan of Vera – you’ll see the next 4 eps in 2022! Until then X.” (sic)

Nearly 7 million people watched the gripping crime drama last week, which will return next year.

But Kenny’s poignant post encouraged many fans of the show to pay tribute to Mark.

Before his death, he worked as a painter in the exhibition for eight years.

One follower wrote: “RIP Mark. Thank you again and all the cast and crew. Another great episode tonight.

“Will miss you guys, well done by all involved. A great show. I’ll be a little free on Sundays.”

Another tweeted: “Absolutely fantastic episode, such great writing, directing and acting – so sad to hear of Mark Allen for all of you.

“Thank you for mentioning Mark,” another replied. “A great man whom it is a pleasure to consider as a close friend.

“Few people know how many hours/years #Vera has been spent. Every group and location for the past 8 years or more. Deserving of recognition. @VeraSeries.”

Since 2015, former Heartbeat and Coronation Street actor Kenny has starred in Vera alongside actress Brenda Blessing.

Just the other day, he credited the show’s loyal fans for helping viewership soar.

“The best fan in the world!” Tribute to Kenny.

However, some fans were disappointed that the latest series was temporarily over.

They expressed their feelings on social media.

One asked: “Seriously? Impossible? Only two episodes?? Nooooooooo please tell me this is a joke @BrendaBlethyn #Vera.”

Another echoed the feeling, tweeting: “No you can’t do that. I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time. It’s done before it even started… Come back, Vera.”

A third said: “I don’t know if I can wait that long!” as a fourth added: “Visceral [there’s] There are only two. But the same quality as always. But miss Kenny! “
