Jimmy Garoppolo’s Italian ancestry is the foundation of his sweet family

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the best teams in the NFL this season, thanks in large part to their quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Coupled with the team’s rock-solid defense, Gallopolo has been the team’s guiding force in his first full season as a starter. But some people may not realize that the foundation of Gallopolo’s success began long before his career or college career. This starts with his Italian family.

Gallopolo played college football for Eastern Illinois University. Garoppolo won the 2013 Walter Payton Award, which is awarded to the top football championship subdivision (FCS) players in the country.

Gallopolo’s senior season was particularly memorable. In 14 games, he completed 375 passes and 568 attempts, with a completion rate of 66%. He threw 53 touchdowns and 5,050 yards, with only 9 interceptions.

His 53 touchdown passes are only 3 times short of the historical record, making him the fourth-highest number of passes in history. His 5,050 passing yards is the second highest ever. Only two players in FCS history have pitched more than 5,000 yards.

In the NFL combined game, Garoppolo scored 5.38 prospect points, NFL.com expects him to enter the third or fourth round. He completed a 40-yard sprint in 4.97 seconds, completed a triple cone training in 7.04 seconds (making him one of the best performers in the category), the vertical jump was 30.5 inches and the long jump was 11 inches.

Subsequently, he was selected by the New England Patriots with the 62nd overall pick in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Occupation Number

Jimmy Garoppolo came to New England to learn about his role as a substitute for the legendary Tom Brady. In his first two seasons, he saw very little action. In his third year, he started two games to relieve Brady, who was suspended. He played well, won two games for the Patriots and threw four touchdowns at the same time.

In 2017, the New England team traded Gallopolo to San Francisco, where he signed a large contract extension and became the new starter. He started in the team’s last five games and led them to a 5-0 record.

People have high expectations for 2018, which made him even more disappointing when he fell to the ground due to injury after only three games. Gallopolo played well this season, leading the team to a 10-1 record in 11 games.

The following are the career statistics of Gallopolo:

  • 18-3 victory record
  • 67% completion rate
  • 5,699 yard passes
  • 37 touchdowns
  • 18 interceptions

How Jimmy Garoppolo’s Italian ancestry became the foundation of his sweet family

The roots of Garoppolo’s success began with his family and his brothers Tony, Mike and Billy, and his sister Casey. Garoppolo’s parents, Tony and Jane, are first-generation Americans, and their family grew up in Italy. Before being selected in 2014, Gallopolo reflected on how his family’s intimacy affected him before his important day:

“My Nana—we call her Nana, in fact, it’s Italian—text me before that and wish me luck,” Jimmy Gallopolo said. “My mother’s birthday is coming soon, so we have to get together like a family. It is a rare thing for us to get everyone together, so when we have a chance, it’s great.”

This is the contact that Gallopolo has kept during his stay in San Francisco. Last season, during his knee rehabilitation, Gallopolo and his father held a signing day for 100 high school students who are becoming skilled trade workers. As a way to commemorate his father’s 40-year career, the event doubled.

When people see Gallopolo’s current success, it is not difficult to see its origin. Garoppolo’s support comes from his loving family. They supported him in a record-breaking career in the NCAA, and now he is trying to become a chartered quarterback in San Francisco.
