Gisele Bundchen rescues turtle from net
Gisele Bündchen just saved the life of a stranded sea turtle.
The 41-year-old supermodel posted a video to Instagram on Saturday in which she rescued a sea turtle caught in a fishing net on the beach.
In the video, the Portuguese-speaking Bundchen carefully unties the reptile’s legs and head from the web. Then she turned the animal over, stood upright, and brought it to shore.
She added emojis of praying hands and hearts to the video as the turtles swim into the water. “Life is a series of opportunities that arise every day and we choose how to deal with them,” she wrote in the caption. “Today is no exception.”
Bündchen recalls walking on the beach when her dog Onyx started barking at a pile of trash on the beach.
“As I approached, I saw this beautiful tortoise rolled over, her eyes full of despair and exhaustion, her body knotted and tangled in a fishing net,” she explained.
She added that she “did not think twice” about taking the reptile out to sea because she saw the turtle was too tired to get back into the water on its own.
“It’s amazing how adrenaline can make you stronger!” she quipped.
While Bündchen felt “relief” and “grateful” for her rescue of the animal, she alerted her followers to other creatures who died after being caught in the net.
The actor encouraged people to “be more aware of our ways as a species and to help protect all animals, it’s our choice.”
At the end of the post, she wrote: “I pray that we all stand up and remember that the opportunity for change begins with an act,” along with another praying hand emoji.

Over the years, Bundchen has used her public platform to support animals and various environmental causes. In 2009, she became a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme. She later joined the UN’s “Wild for Life” campaign in 2016 and chose sea turtles as her “close relative”.
Most recently, Bundchen served as executive producer on the 2019 documentary “Kissing the Earth,” and appeared in the film alongside husband Tom Brady. The film follows a group of activists, scientists, farmers and politicians who come together to support “regenerative agriculture,” a global movement focused on feeding the world, balancing our climate and replenishing water supplies.
